Truck accident on the A38 near Eisleben: Driver seriously injured, highway partially closed for days

The driver of the truck was seriously injured in the impact and taken to a hospital for further treatment. Police initially provided no further details on the man's identity or on any other possible parties involved. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are also ongoing.

The Autobahn 38 near Allstedt in the Mansfeld-Südharz district has been affected in both directions since the accident. As police further reported, the stretch has since been reopened in the direction of Göttingen. However, the lane in the direction of Leipzig remains fully closed for the time being.

Closure and cleanup operations

The truck has since been towed away, but cleanup operations are still ongoing. "Der Laster ist inzwischen abtransportiert worden, aber durch den Aufprall hat sich die Ladung auf dem Asphalt verteilt", police told MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT. The cleaning of the road surface is therefore not yet complete.

According to police, the cargo scattered on the road is a substrate used for growing mushrooms, which was partially distributed across the roadway by the accident. Due to the ongoing cleaning work, a full reopening of the stretch in the direction of Leipzig is not yet possible. "Das hat die Polizei MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT mitgeteilt, da vor Ort noch immer der Asphalt gereinigt wird", the broadcaster reported.

Damage and expected duration

Police estimate the material damage at approximately 100,000 euros. In addition to the damaged truck and the guardrail, the asphalt contaminated by the cargo must also be laboriously cleaned. The lane in the direction of Leipzig can only be reopened to traffic once this work has been completed.

According to police, a complete reopening of the highway is not expected until approximately Friday noon. Drivers planning to use the route between Allstedt and Eisleben on Friday must therefore continue to expect significant disruptions. Police recommend taking a wide detour around the area.

The A38 in the direction of Leipzig also remains closed, while the opposite direction toward Göttingen is once again passable. No information was initially available regarding possible traffic jams on the detour routes or further closures. Police announced that, if necessary, further information on the course of the accident would be provided later.
