US President Donald Trump has called on his Republican Party to include Iran in a planned sanctions package against Russia, citing the recently deceased Senator Lindsey Graham.
Trump posted his demand on the Truth Social platform, writing in capital letters "IMPORTANT!!!" after the appeal. He also stated: "That's what Lindsey wanted to do," referring to the late Senator Lindsey Graham, who had significantly advanced the sanctions package.
The revised bill provides for tariffs of up to 100 percent on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India. According to the draft, countries can be exempted from the sanctions if they purchase less than 15 percent of Russian gas exports and take "significant measures" to reduce these purchases.
