Twins in Halle: Anton and Mara born with two different birthdays

Little Anton came into the world on Saturday shortly before midnight. His twin sister Mara, however, took another half hour. She was born only after Sunday had already begun. As a result, the two newborns carry different birth dates, yet share the same birth event.

Health development and family

Both the children and their mother came through the uncomplicated birth well and are thriving. The spontaneous delivery took place last weekend at the University Hospital Halle (Saxony-Anhalt). The names of the parents are being withheld to protect their privacy.

For the hospital, the birth was also a particular challenge in terms of staffing. "Jede Geburt ist Teamarbeit, bei einer Zwillingsgeburt gilt das ganz besonders", Rostalski emphasized. According to her, midwives, doctors, and nursing staff worked hand in hand to safely guide mother and children through the delivery.

Teamwork during a twin birth

The now family of five, which also includes an older sibling, can look forward to two birthday celebrations a year – or at least to two dates on which to celebrate – according to the hospital. Even though Anton and Mara will now celebrate their birthdays on different days, they share a very special start in life, as the hospital's lead midwife highlighted.

Medically, the phenomenon is no cause for concern: the time difference between the two births was only around 30 minutes. The fact that this meant crossing a day boundary is, in the hospital's assessment, above all a curiosity. For the hospital's statistics, it is in any case an event that will not be forgotten any time soon.

The University Hospital Halle is one of the major maternity hospitals in Saxony-Anhalt and oversees a high number of deliveries each year. That twins with two different birthdays were among them counts as one of those exceptions that the team will remember for a long time to come.

According to the hospital, the family decided not to share the birth on social media initially. Instead, the University Hospital Halle informed the public in a brief statement on Tuesday. The privacy of the parents and children was given top priority.
