Two Austrian tourists died on Sunday after a suspension bridge collapsed during a hike to the Cunca Wulang Waterfall on the Indonesian island of Flores.

The victims, a 55-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, were part of a small group visiting the remote natural attraction. According to local search and rescue authorities, the bridge suddenly gave way, plunging the pair approximately 20 metres into the river below.

Fathur Rahman, head of the local search and rescue authority, confirmed early Monday morning local time that the bodies had been recovered from the river beneath the bridge. The exact hometown of the victims in Austria was initially unknown.

What Witnesses Described

The guide accompanying the couple described the moments before the accident to the portal "Hey Bali News". "Sie gingen nebeneinander und lächelten in die Kamera", the guide told reporters. Seconds later, the structure collapsed.
