Following a distraction theft at a jeweler in Amstetten in the district of Melk, Lower Austrian police have arrested two Romanian citizens aged 22 and 18.

On June 3, the duo is said to have specifically stolen gold jewelry from a jewelry store in Amstetten. As the Lower Austria State Police Directorate announced on Monday, the 22-year-old distracted the saleswoman while his 18-year-old accomplice took the gold jewelry. According to police, the damage incurred is estimated to be in the mid-four-digit euro range.

According to the investigations, the two suspects had previously inquired conspicuously about gold jewelry and had been asked to leave the store. The store manager of the jeweler filed a report with police on Saturday shortly before 11:00 a.m., prompting a search for the two individuals and their vehicle.
