Osnabrück, May 31, 2026

In the Lokviertel district of Osnabrück, experts from the ordnance disposal service rendered two American World War II unexploded bombs harmless on Sunday, one of them through controlled detonation.

According to the city of Osnabrück, one of the two bombs was defused by specialists from the ordnance disposal service at noon. The second bomb could not be rendered harmless by conventional means because its tail fuse was damaged. It was therefore destroyed by a controlled detonation.

Origin and weight of the bombs

According to the city, both unexploded bombs are of American production and weigh approximately 50 kilograms each. Due to their comparatively low weight and associated lower explosive force, the evacuation radius was significantly smaller than in previous operations in the city.
