The US ride-hailing company Uber has stopped the bulk of its planned expansion of the delivery service Uber Eats in Europe and will not introduce the offering in Austria, among other countries, as the "Financial Times" reported on Sunday, citing insiders.

The market entry was planned for Austria as well as Norway, Greece, Denmark, Finland, the Czech Republic, and Romania. The market launch has already taken place in Finland and Denmark. In five of these seven countries, however, Uber Eats will now not launch, including in Austria.

The background is the proposed takeover of the German competitor Delivery Hero, the newspaper reported on Sunday, citing insiders. The takeover plans are apparently changing the company's strategic direction in the European food delivery market.
