Radio Caroline mistakenly announced the death of King Charles III on Tuesday afternoon due to a computer error in its main studio in Maldon, Essex.

The station's 'Monarch' protocol, which all UK radio stations maintain for reporting the death of a sovereign, was accidentally triggered. This led to a false announcement of King Charles III's death being broadcast.

Peter Moore, the chief of Radio Caroline, attributed the mistake to a technical glitch. 'The erroneous announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon due to a computer error at its main studio in Maldon in eastern Essex,' he said.

Radio Caroline immediately fell silent as required by protocol, then restored programming to issue an on-air apology. The station also apologized online for any distress caused.
