An unknown woman abducted a seven-day-old newborn from the maternity ward of a hospital in Lüdenscheid, North Rhine-Westphalia, on Saturday afternoon; the infant was found unharmed a short time later in the parking garage of the Sterncenter.
According to police, the woman posed as a hospital employee when she took the newborn from a patient room. Under the pretext of needing to take the child for an examination, she disappeared with the infant at around 3:15 p.m. No details about the exact background of the crime were initially known, as police announced.
Description of the Suspected Perpetrator
The suspect is estimated to be in her mid-20s to early 30s, is very slim, and stands between 1.75 and 1.80 meters tall. At the time of the crime, she was wearing a light blue smock, large glasses, and was carrying a dark shoulder bag. According to the current state of the investigation, the woman apparently does not belong to the baby's family.
