What is new since 20 June
Update of 20 June 2026: Trump has imposed the ban on Anthropic's latest models, and cybersecurity experts are now calling for its lifting. At the same time, the debate warns of a possible loss of AI leadership vis-à-vis China.
In the letter, which is addressed to the USA, the signatories argue that the authorities' justification for the export restrictions is not technically tenable. The assumption that the Fable 5 model enables a unique leap in capability over other AI systems does not hold, the letter states. According to the experts, comparable results can also be achieved with other models such as GPT-5.5, Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, or the Chinese model Kimi 2.7.
