Kyiv, 06 September 2026

Two US envoys dispatched by Donald Trump arrived in Kyiv on 6 September 2026 after meeting Vladimir Putin in Moscow for three days of talks.

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, both close to Trump, traveled to the Ukrainian capital as part of an intensified US push to broker an end to Russia's war in Ukraine. Their arrival followed extended discussions with Putin in the Kremlin, the highest-level contact between Washington and Moscow on the conflict in months.

Speaking before the visit, Dmytro Snegir set out the skeptical view held by many in Kyiv. 'We have already seen delegations like this come here before,' Snegir said, according to Reuters. 'We have seen this supposed three-day ceasefire, which ended after just a couple of hours, and now we are supposed to naively think that two people will come and change something.'
