The U.S. plans to lead an international rescue operation for hundreds of ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, as announced by President Donald Trump.

Operation "Project Freedom" Launched

Trump described the initiative as a humanitarian gesture, naming it "Project Freedom." According to U.S. Central Command, the operation is already underway to assist merchant vessels traversing the Strait of Hormuz. The effort involves destroyers, over 100 aircraft, unmanned systems, and 15,000 troops.

Several countries have requested U.S. assistance in freeing their ships, Trump stated. At the same time, he emphasized that the blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. The U.S. president warned Iran against interfering with the operation: "Should this humanitarian process be obstructed in any way, unfortunately, the toughest measures will be taken."
