New York, 24 August 2026
The US stock markets are expected to open with slight losses on Wednesday, as investors keep an eye on Nvidia's quarterly results, monetary policy signals from the US Federal Reserve, and the escalating tensions between Iran and the US.
Even before the start of trading on Wall Street, a weak open was taking shape on Wednesday. The major indices were trading in negative territory in pre-market hours, while Asian markets sent predominantly negative leads. European benchmark indices also slipped, further dampening investors' risk appetite.
Nvidia at the center of expectations
The focus of attention was chipmaker Nvidia. The company is set to release its quarterly results only after the US market close, but even beforehand, speculation about possible price hikes due to rising costs at the AI chip leader had triggered unease. The sector was already under pressure: Nvidia itself, as well as competitors such as Intel, lost ground in pre-market trading, according to broker eToro.
