Caracas, July 27, 2026
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, together with the opposition's 2024 presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, has announced that she will not participate in the Washington-backed political talks with the transitional government of Delcy Rodríguez.
Background of the talks
In a joint statement disseminated through social networks, Machado and González Urrutia declared that the opposition would take part neither in the „design, development and operation" of the talks nor in their preparation. The statement came just days after Rodríguez's transitional government and a group of former opposition parliamentarians from the 2015–2020 legislative term had presented a work plan for „strengthening democracy" in Venezuela.
