Max Verstappen set the fastest lap in the first free practice session for the Belgian Grand Prix on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, posting a time of 1:47.070 minutes to edge out Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari.

The 28-year-old Dutchman, at the wheel of his Red Bull, set the pace on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps layout, finishing 0.145 seconds clear of record world champion Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari. Verstappen produced a particularly strong performance in the middle sector around Formula 1's longest lap at 7.004 kilometres. The track in the Ardennes is regarded as one of his favourites: he has already won three races there.
Behind Hamilton, Charles Leclerc in the second Ferrari was 0.207 seconds off the pace, with Isack Hadjar in the Racing Bulls 0.252 seconds back. Further down the order, Oscar Piastri in the McLaren trailed by 0.452 seconds, Kimi Antonelli in the Mercedes by 0.533 seconds, and Lando Norris in the second McLaren by 0.861 seconds. George Russell in the second Mercedes took ninth place, 0.889 seconds off the pace.
