On Tuesday evening, the Wiener Kammeroper suspended its operations indefinitely with a double premiere of two one-act operas by Mieczysław Weinberg and Bohuslav Martinů.

A Double Farewell

The program for the final premiere evening featured Weinberg's "Lady Magnesia" and Martinů's "Twice Alexander" ("Alexandre bis"), two works in which jealous husbands are quick to resort to arms. The direction was by Anna Bernreitner, who, with precise character portrayal, highlighted the absurd mechanisms of both pieces. The musical direction was by Irene Delgado-Jiménez, who led the chamber orchestra with a lineup including electric guitar, harmonium, and a small ensemble.
