The German Cooperative Banks' Association (Bundesverband der Deutschen Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken, BVR) has significantly revised its economic forecast for Germany upward for the current year, roughly doubling its previous expectation.
According to information from the Rheinische Post, the association of cooperative banks now expects growth of around one percent, after previously forecasting only about 0.5 percent. In the view of the association's economists, the jump is primarily attributable to public investment programs that are set to trigger additional growth impulses in the coming quarters.
As the BVR chief economist explains, three areas in particular are likely to play a key role: defense, infrastructure, and climate protection. The programs for these areas have now been fleshed out to the point that they can have a visible impact across the breadth of the economy. Higher public investment is generally regarded in economic analyses as a direct demand impulse for the construction industry, mechanical engineering, and supplier sectors.
