Wolfsberg, 07 September 2026

Wolfsberger AC (WAC) prevailed on Sunday against Regionalliga side SV Parndorf in a penalty shootout to reach the round of 16 of the ÖFB Cup.

The match in Parndorf ended level after regular time and extra time, meaning the decision had to be made from the spot. The WAC, who were clear favorites as a Bundesliga club, struggled against the ambitious fourth-division side throughout the match. Only the penalty shootout brought the decisive outcome in favor of the Carinthians.

After the 5:4 in the penalty shootout, the Wolfsberg players and coach Thomas Silberberger celebrated the narrow qualification for the round of the last 16. Silberberger spoke afterward of a nerve-wracking encounter and emphasized that his team had accepted the fight. Parndorf, meanwhile, said goodbye to their fans with applause despite the defeat, having matched the favorites for long stretches.
