German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday evening and discussed the situation in Ukraine and Iran.
The call took place late on Sunday evening and was confirmed by the US State Department in Washington. According to the statement, Wadephul and Rubio discussed the latest developments in both crisis regions and coordination among the allies. The background to the conversation is Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which has continued since the invasion began in February 2022. Ukraine is supported internationally by, among others, Germany and the United States. At the same time, Iran has been the focus of international diplomacy since the fall of the previous regime.
