Kevin Warsh, nominated by Donald Trump to chair the Federal Reserve, is under renewed pressure to clarify how he would assess whether U.S. inflation is at the central bank's 2% target and what that would mean for the future path of interest rates.

Warsh, who is widely expected to succeed Jerome Powell if confirmed, appeared before reporters in recent days and was pressed repeatedly on his policy preferences. When asked which indicator he would use to determine whether inflation is at the 2% objective, he cited the personal consumption expenditures price index, the Fed's current preferred measure, according to three sources. He then suggested, however, that the framework could change next year once commissions he has appointed to review data sources and inflation present their recommendations.
