Weather shift in Hessen: Showers, thunderstorms and temperatures below 27 degrees

Sunday: brief weather calming

According to the DWD, rain and thunderstorms will ease during the night to Sunday. On Sunday, it will remain partly cloudy in the north, but mostly dry overall. Temperatures will rise to 21 to 24 degrees, and 17 to 20 degrees in higher elevations – values that are within the long-term average for early June.

Monday will start the way the weekend ended: predominantly cloudy. "In der Nacht zum Montag lockert die Bewölkung auf und es bleibt trocken. Vereinzelt kann sich Nebel bilden", the forecast states. Late in the afternoon and evening, showers and individual heavy thunderstorms are expected to return according to the forecast.

Monday: Clouds, thunderstorms and up to 27 degrees

Maximum temperatures on Monday will range between 20 degrees in higher elevations and up to 27 degrees in the Vorderpfalz. This signals a slight warming at the start of the new week, without reaching the high-summer values of the past weeks.

According to DWD meteorologists, the weather shift is due to the weakening high-pressure influence over Central Europe. Since the air masses over the Atlantic are picking up moisture, fair-weather cumulus clouds and showers form more easily under the current pressure conditions than in previous days.

Cause of the shift

Those spending time outdoors on Saturday and Monday afternoon should expect short, sometimes heavy rainfall. Locally, lightning and gusty winds can make being outside unpleasant, especially in exposed locations and open areas.

Regional differences in Hessen

The highest values on Monday are expected in the Vorderpfalz, the Upper Rhine and the lower elevations of Rheinhessen. In the low mountain ranges – such as the Taunus, Odenwald or Westerwald – it will remain noticeably cooler at 17 to 20 degrees and more prone to precipitation.
