A 46-year-old man allegedly threatened a 34-year-old passerby from the window of his apartment with a firearm in Vienna-Meidling on Friday evening, prompting the WEGA special unit to storm the apartment.
Trigger: Dispute between neighbors
According to the Vienna State Police Directorate, a neighborhood dispute that had been simmering for days escalated in the Meidling district on the evening of Friday, July 24, 2026. A 46-year-old man allegedly threatened his counterpart with a firearm. The 34-year-old, who was passing under the window according to police, alerted the police due to the weapon.
After a brief verbal altercation, the suspect suddenly pulled out a firearm at the window and threatened his counterpart. Prior to that, the 46-year-old suspect had allegedly first given the 34-year-old the middle finger from the window. The situation escalated when the younger man responded to the 46-year-old with an obscene gesture on Friday. The two men are believed to have gotten into a dispute days earlier.
