The Greek health authority EODY is registering an increase in West Nile virus cases, with 81 affected individuals having developed severe neurological complications.

The Greek health authority EODY is recording a marked increase in West Nile virus infections this summer. According to data released on Thursday in Athens, a total of 81 patients with severe courses affecting the central nervous system have been registered since the beginning of the transmission season. According to EODY, these individuals developed encephalitis, meningitis, or other neurological complications.

EODY stated verbatim: „Bei 81 Betroffenen entwickelte sich eine schwere Erkrankung des zentralen Nervensystems, darunter Enzephalitis, Meningitis oder andere neurologische Komplikationen." This represents a noticeable increase in the number of severe cases compared to previous weeks. The authority simultaneously urged older people and individuals with pre-existing conditions to exercise heightened caution.
