Wiener Linien have doubled the share of e-bikes in their WienMobil Rad rental bike fleet from 300 to 600 bikes, bringing the total to 3,700 bicycles available at more than 250 locations across all 23 Viennese districts.
Doubling after a successful pilot year
Following a one-year pilot project, Wiener Linien have doubled the number of e-bikes in the WienMobil fleet from 300 to 600. As Wiener Linien and public transport city councillor Ulli Sima (SPÖ) announced in a joint press release, a total of 3,700 rental bikes are now available at more than 250 locations across all 23 districts of Vienna. The bike-sharing service operated by Wiener Linien has been available since April 2022 and is additionally deployed temporarily at events.
The new models feature a technical upgrade: they have a 3-speed gear system, a new battery generation with improved range, and are visually adapted to the existing fleet – with a white frame. The range of the new e-bikes is approximately 85 kilometers. The e-bikes are identified by a "lightning bolt" symbol on the rear wheel. Users can recognize in the nextbike app, by means of this symbol, at which stations e-bikes are currently available.
