Vienna, 01 July 2026
The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (WIIW) sees the Russian economy in crisis following a collapse in investment activity and forecasts only 0.6 percent growth for 2026.
According to the economists at the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (WIIW), Russia's economy has fallen into crisis because of high interest rates, Ukrainian attacks, and internet shutdowns. "Die russische Wirtschaft steckt aus Sicht von Ökonomen wegen hoher Zinsen, ukrainischer Angriffe und Internetsperren in einer Krise", the institute's analysis states. In the two previous years, the Russian economy had still grown by 4.9 and 1 percent respectively.
