Severe wildfires in the Canadian province of Ontario have caused the metropolis of Toronto to currently be the city with the worst air quality worldwide.

According to the Swiss air analytics company IQAir, the air in Canada's largest city is currently worse than that in the Congolese city of Kinshasa or the city of Medan in Indonesia. This puts Toronto at the top of cities with the worst air quality, according to IQAir.

There are several wildfires in northwestern Ontario. Winds carried the smoke from the fires hundreds of kilometers to Toronto. There, the sky turned yellow, as eyewitnesses and images from the city of millions show.
