Woman Dies After Cardiac Arrest on Forest Path in Helenental near Baden

Background: A Hot Day and a Popular Recreation Area

Because of the remote location and the extreme heat on that day – it was the hottest day of the year so far – the voluntary fire brigades of Baden Weikersdorf and Baden-Stadt were called in to support the rescue services. A total of 40 volunteer firefighters were deployed.

"Da sich einige Kameraden der Feuerwehr Baden Weikersdorf gerade im Feuerwehrhaus aufhielten, als sie die Alarmierung erreichte, konnte das erste Fahrzeug innerhalb kürzester Zeit ausrücken", said operations commander Georg Mrvka of the FF Baden Weikersdorf. Both brigades also have specially trained rescue paramedics who provide valuable assistance in such scenarios.

On site, the fire brigades were given three clearly defined tasks: to support the ongoing resuscitation, to erect a privacy screen, and to bring additional equipment from the more distantly parked rescue vehicle (RTW). "Aufgrund der vielen anwesenden Passanten, die sich im Nahbereich aufhielten, wurde auf die Abschirmung ein besonderes Augenmerk gelegt", so Mrvka.

Tasks of the Fire Brigade at the Scene

Numerous people had gathered along the Schwechat and in the shady Helenental to cool off on the hot summer day. The incident therefore occurred in a busy recreational area, which made the sensitive handling of the situation additionally challenging. According to the emergency services, the deceased woman's husband was nearby from the very beginning.

Ultimately, the woman could no longer be saved. The fire brigade ensured the dignified transport of the deceased down to the B210 federal highway, where the funeral company took over.

Information About the Deceased

According to the district fire brigade command, the woman had previously been ill. She was Chinese and lived in Austria together with her husband, who is also Chinese.

Additional first responders had been summoned to the scene of the accident via the Lifesaver App. The system makes it possible to alert medically trained volunteers in the vicinity of an emergency and to bridge the time until the rescue services arrive.

The district fire brigade command reported on the incident on Monday. The exact circumstances of the cardiac arrest remained the subject of ongoing investigations and medical clarifications.
