Xaver Schlager reportedly set to join Nottingham Forest on a free transfer

For Nottingham Forest, also known among supporters as "Tricky Trees", it would be the Austrian's first move to the English Premier League. The club most recently advanced into European competition and has been coached by Oliver Glasner since this summer.

The connection between Schlager and Glasner is not new. From 2019 to 2021, Schlager played under Glasner at VfL Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga. During that period, he made 66 appearances for the Lower Saxony side. Another joint spell in Nottingham would accordingly be a continuation of an earlier collaboration.

The free transfer results from the expired contract of the midfielder at RB Leipzig. As the report further states, Schlager is therefore available on a free. For Leipzig, this brings an end to a multi-year collaboration that was sportingly marked by highs and lows as well as injury layoffs.

Should the contract details, as described by "The Athletic", be implemented with a term of two years plus option, the move would formally be fixed until at least 2028.
