The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng has raised more than 900 million US dollars for its robotics division in a funding round.
The funds come from several investors, including, according to Chinese media reports, Tencent, Alibaba, IDG Capital and Gaorong Ventures. The capital round is expected to significantly increase the corporate value of the robotics division and accelerate the commercialization of humanoid robots as well as autonomous driving technologies.
With the fresh capital, Xpeng wants to advance the expansion of its humanoid robotics platform and scale up production. The company had already presented prototypes of bipedal robots in recent years and, in parallel, continued to develop its driver-assistance and autopilot systems for electric vehicles.
