Yad Vashem announced on Thursday that it will establish its first international educational center outside Israel in Munich, Germany, with a smaller satellite location planned for Leipzig.

A Symbolic Location in the Former 'Capital of the Movement'

The decision follows a comprehensive nationwide feasibility study conducted with support from the German government. The states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony had also expressed strong interest in hosting the branch, but Munich was ultimately selected based on its historical significance, existing educational landscape, infrastructure, and high security standards.

The main center will be built at Karolinenplatz in central Munich, an area that already houses an Israeli consulate general and a large Nazi documentation center. The facility is expected to begin operations in approximately two to three years and will employ around 20 staff members.
