Munich, 28 May 2026
Yad Vashem announced on Thursday that its first foreign branch will be established in Munich, Germany, with a satellite location in Leipzig.
The Jerusalem-based memorial stated that Munich was selected following a comprehensive nationwide feasibility study with support from the German government. "Munich was chosen due to its strategically favorable location and its educational landscape, making the city an ideal location for Holocaust education," the memorial said.
The new educational center will be built at Karolinenplatz in central Munich and is expected to employ approximately 20 people. It is intended to be open to everyone but is particularly aimed at teachers and educators throughout the region and in neighboring countries.
