Munich, 28 May 2026
Yad Vashem, the world's largest Holocaust memorial, announced on Thursday that it will establish its first international educational center in Munich, Germany, with a smaller branch in Leipzig.
The decision follows a comprehensive nationwide feasibility study supported by the German government. The states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony had also expressed interest in hosting the center.
The main educational center is to be built at Karolinenplatz in central Munich, a location chosen for its historical significance, existing educational landscape, infrastructure, and high security standards. An Israeli consulate general and a large Nazi documentation center are already located nearby.
