Munich, 28 May 2026

Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust memorial, announced plans on May 28, 2026, to open its first educational centers outside Israel, with a main facility in Munich and a branch office in Leipzig, Germany.

The Munich center will serve as the primary site, while a smaller facility in Leipzig will focus on interactive learning spaces targeting educators and young people in the region and neighboring countries. The Leipzig branch will be housed in the Ariowitsch-Haus, a building with its own complex Jewish history.

Dani Dayan, chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate, emphasized the symbolic weight of the Munich location. "The choice of Munich, the birthplace of the Nazi Party, carries deep symbolic significance and reflects the importance of confronting this history where it began," Dayan said.
