Munich, 29 May 2026

Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust memorial, will open a new educational center in Munich at a site deeply linked to the origins of the Nazi Party, officials confirmed on Thursday.

A Site Steeped in History

The center will be located at Karolinenplatz 4, a building that formerly served as the party court of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP). The nearby Brienner Strasse was home to the "Braunes Haus," the Nazi party headquarters.

The idea for a German branch of Yad Vashem emerged during a visit to Israel in 2023. In September 2025, the memorial's director and German Federal Education Minister Karin Prien of the Christian Democratic Union announced plans for an external site, with Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Saxony named as possible locations.
