ZDF is ending the crime series "Ein Fall für zwei" after 46 years; following a final season of four episodes, a concluding film is planned for 2027.
ZDF has announced the discontinuation of its long-running Friday crime series "Ein Fall für zwei." After 46 years and numerous seasons, the series is to come to an end. The channel's management stated that the decision was made "nach reiflicher Überlegung" (after careful consideration).
The first episode of the Frankfurt-set format aired in 1981. Over the decades, the series shaped the channel's Friday evening programming. It is considered one of the most influential crime series in German television.
An End After 46 Years
Claus Theo Gärtner appeared as the lead actor in the series for over 30 years. He played private detective Josef Matula. His departure after 300 episodes in 2013 marked the end of an era.
