ZDF satire show "Die Anstalt" accuses broadcaster of lacking professionalism after Danger Dan's cancellation

Host Maike Kühl announced that the show would address the void left by the cancellation. "Wir werden uns der Leerstelle von Danger Dan und dessen Text stellen," she said. With this, the "Anstalt" team aims to alert the audience directly to the unplanned programming change.

Danger Dan, whose real name is Daniel Danger, is known as a musician and lyricist who has repeatedly taken political stances against right-wing extremism. The planned appearance with Igor Levit, one of the most distinguished pianists of the present day, had been announced as the musical highlight of the anniversary broadcast.

From the perspective of the show's management, the sequence of events raises fundamental questions about editorial interference in satirical formats. The fact that a text submitted in advance was only flagged on the day of recording undermines the working method of a live show, the team criticized. They would have wished for earlier and more transparent communication.

The "Anstalt" crew announced it would also take up the matter in the regular Tuesday show. ZDF's Director-General spoke of a "lösbaren redaktionellen Konflikt" and referred to the planned "Aspekte" special.

ZDF announced it would use the special broadcast on Saturday evening to make the background of the decision transparent. Danger Dan himself has not yet publicly commented on the cancellation. On his Instagram account, he merely shared a photo of the empty performance venue with the title "Keine Angst."
