The team of the ZDF satire show "Die Anstalt" has accused the broadcaster of unprofessionalism after the appearance of rapper Danger Dan and star pianist Igor Levit in the show's 100th episode was cancelled shortly before recording.

As the show's team announced on Friday, ZDF's decision not to broadcast the joint appearance of Danger Dan and Igor Levit performing the new song "Keine Angst" was made only shortly before the recording. The broadcaster cited as its reason that the text and message of the song could be understood as a call to violence and therefore needed to be journalistically contextualized. The anniversary edition was dedicated to the topic of radicalization and the defensibility of democracy.

Accusation of short notice

Host Claus von Wagner told the industry trade publication DWDL.de that the broadcaster had had sufficient time to review the text in advance. "Das ZDF hatte lange genug Zeit, sich den Text anzuschauen," von Wagner stated. At the same time, he emphasized that the song had been specifically intended as "Anleitung zum Widerstand gegen rechtsextreme Strukturen und Zeilen enthält, die zur Diskussion einladen." It would have been better, he added, if this could have been done together with the artist.
