Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted to parliament the appointment of the head of the energy company Naftogaz as the new Prime Minister, as announced by Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Government head Yulia Svyrydenko was dismissed after one year in office. As Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced, the dismissal of Svyrydenko triggered the dismissal of the entire cabinet. This led to yet another sweeping personnel overhaul at the top of the executive in Ukraine within a short period of time.
Background: From Svyrydenko's departure to cabinet restructuring
Zelensky surprisingly announced a renewed cabinet reshuffle on Sunday. With the request to appoint a new Prime Minister, he now proposed the head of the state-owned energy company Naftogaz as Svyrydenko's successor. Naftogaz is one of the country's key energy companies and plays a central role in supplying Ukraine with natural gas.
