Struff creates a German duo

Zverev followed Jan-Lennard Struff and delivered Germany's best men's result in 14 years. For the first time since 2012, when Florian Mayer and Philipp Kohlschreiber reached the round of the best 16, a German duo has made it to the Wimbledon round of 16.

Outlook on the round of 16

The 36-year-old Sauerland native Struff had already made headlines on Friday with a brilliant performance, unexpectedly reaching the third round for the first time in his career and thus advancing to the round of 16. On Sunday, the 36-year-old Sauerland native faces Poland's Hubert Hurkacz, fighting for a place in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

A win against world number 14 Jiri Lehecka from the Czech Republic or the Spaniard Jaume Munar could see him reach the quarterfinals for the first time. That would give the Hamburg native the chance of his first Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Reactions and assessment

Already in the third round, Zverev was clearly the better player in his match. Although the favorite came under pressure again in the third set when Giron leveled at 4:4, Zverev ultimately closed out the set and the match with authority.

His next opponent has yet to be determined: Lehecka or Munar are still to play their round-of-16 clash. The two know each other well from the professional tour circuit, and the duel promises an intriguing matchup for the winner, who would then face a hardened Zverev.
