A 21-year-old man has died in a Vienna hospital after a swimming accident on Whit Monday in Gerasdorf, Lower Austria.
The incident occurred at a pond in the municipality of Gerasdorf, located in the Korneuburg district just outside Vienna. The victim was with friends when the accident happened.
According to reports, the man's friends noticed him floating motionless under the water. Other bathers at the scene immediately intervened and pulled the 21-year-old from the bottom of the pond.
Rescue Efforts and Hospitalization
Emergency services were called to the scene. The rescue helicopter "Christophorus 9" was deployed to provide urgent medical assistance.
Paramedics and the helicopter crew performed resuscitation efforts on the young man at the scene. He was then airlifted to the Floridsdorf Clinic in Vienna in critical condition.
