Hallstatt, August 6, 2026

A 24-year-old Dutch hiker was seriously injured after falling in the Hallstatt area and was recovered by helicopter, as reported by Austrian media.

The dynamics of the accident

According to Krone Multimedia (KMM), citing police information, the young hiker had planned a descent from the Vorderer Hirlatz toward Hallstatt after a brief stop along the route. During the descent, for reasons still being determined, he slipped and fell several meters down the slope, sustaining serious injuries.

The alarm was triggered late on Wednesday evening and involved alpine rescue teams, who reached the injured man in a difficult-to-access section of the mountain. Given the severity of the injuries and the location's inaccessibility by traditional means, a rescue helicopter was dispatched, with which the man was harnessed and lifted out of the accident area.
