Engerwitzdorf, 15 June 2026

A 55-year-old man was injured on Saturday midday in Engerwitzdorf in the district of Urfahr-Umgebung (Upper Austria) when he broke through a wooden cover and fell about 1.60 meters deep into a pool shaft.

According to police reports released Monday morning, the 55-year-old from the district of Freistadt, specifically from Gallneukirchen, was in a friend's garden when he stepped onto the wooden cover and it gave way. The man lost his footing and fell into the shaft below, where he was initially trapped, according to police.

The wooden cover, which had apparently not been sufficiently secured over the shaft, gave way under the man's weight. The result was a fall from a depth of about 1.60 meters, police further reported. The injured man was unable to free himself on his own.
