A 76-year-old man died at the wheel of a car on Tuesday in the district of Voitsberg after suffering a cardiac arrest, his vehicle having left the roadway and struck a concrete post.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Köppling, a locality of Söding-St. According to the investigations so far, the 76-year-old man was driving his car on a road when he suffered a cardiac arrest while driving. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle.

The car subsequently left the roadway and collided with a concrete post. Bystanders and emergency services became aware of the accident. Despite the first-aid measures initiated quickly, nothing more could be done for the man.

As the police announced on Tuesday, the investigations so far revealed that the 76-year-old had suffered a cardiac arrest while still at the wheel. According to medical assessment and information from family members, a pre-existing condition was responsible for this. According to the police, there were initially no concrete indications of third-party fault or of a technical defect in the vehicle.
