A man died in the late evening on Monday, according to reports on Tuesday, after suffering a cardiac arrest while driving and losing control of his vehicle, which went off the road in the municipality of Söding-St. in the district of Voitsberg, in Styria.
According to information published by Austrian media and picked up by the local press, the man was struck by a sudden medical episode while at the wheel of his car. The vehicle then swerved and crashed into a concrete obstacle, known as a so-called "Betonsteher," along the roadway. The impact occurred in a stretch of the area known as Köppling-Bahn, within the municipal perimeter of Söding-St.
Emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene of the accident, but there was nothing that could be done for the man. Death occurred directly on the spot due to the cardiac arrest, which set in before paramedics could provide specific care. The dynamics of the event, with the driver struck by a medical episode, would suggest a death from natural causes occurring while driving, although authorities are awaiting the results of the relevant investigations.
