Colmar, 30 May 2026
Two French brothers, aged three and five, who were abandoned on a roadside in Portugal earlier this month, have been returned to France and placed with relatives, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The children were found crying along the national road between Alcácer do Sal and Comporta, roughly 100 kilometers south of Lisbon, on May 19. A passing motorist discovered the boys and alerted authorities.
The handover to relatives in France took place under conditions that ensure their safety, Colmar public prosecutor's office stated, according to media reports. The boys arrived back in France on Friday.

The public prosecutor added that no information about the children's ongoing care arrangements would be published, citing privacy concerns.
