Abubakr Barry moves from Austria Wien to Red Bull Salzburg

The player's new contract runs until June 2029. Salzburg is thus tying the midfielder to the club on a medium-term basis. Barry himself expressed relief after the signing that the move had been completed.

Barry's statement on the move

"Ich bin sehr glücklich, dass der Wechsel durch ist. Ich habe schon recht früh gewusst, dass ich nach Salzburg möchte, diese Entscheidung war für mich sehr klar", Barry was quoted as saying in the club's release.

Salzburg sporting director Marcus Mann justified the signing with Barry's previous performances in the Bundesliga and pointed to his room for development. The club sees the transfer as a sensible reinforcement for central midfield.

"Abu (Barry, ed.) has already shown in the Bundesliga what he is capable of. We are convinced that he has not yet exhausted his potential and will show that with us as well", Mann said.

Both clubs have so far provided no information regarding the transfer fee or the amount of the payment to Austria Wien. In its announcement, Salzburg referred only to the contract duration until 2029.

Barry's move is part of a period of personnel changes at Red Bull Salzburg, in which the squad is being reshaped for the coming season. For Austria Wien, the departure of the 25-year-old represents a sporting loss in central midfield that the club will first have to absorb.
