The AfD federal executive board has called on the North Rhine-Westphalian state association to abort the planned continuation of the state party conference on the state election list, scheduled for Friday in Marl.

After a crisis meeting, the AfD federal leadership has formally called on the North Rhine-Westphalia state association to halt the party conference. According to a communication from the federal executive board, obtained by the ARD capital studio, the step is considered a unique occurrence: "Einmaliger Vorgang, dass Bundesvorstand einen Landesverband zum Abbruch eines Parteitages auffordert."

Background to the Conflict

The federal co-chairs Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla see significant risks in drawing up the state list in a legally flawless manner. In a letter to the state executive board, they justify the step with the need to avoid "erhebliche Risiken, die Landesliste rechtlich einwandfrei aufzustellen."

According to information from the federal executive board, the continuation of the party conference is scheduled for Friday in Marl. Over the past weekend, 21 candidates had already been elected for the state list for the state election next year, before the conference was blocked amid tumultuous scenes.
