The federal executive of the AfD will not pursue further challenges to the candidate list adopted at the state party conference in Marl for the 2027 NRW state election, and will instead establish an investigation commission for the deeply divided state association.

As reported by WDR from AfD circles, the federal executive of the party will make no further efforts to challenge the candidate list for the 2027 NRW state election, which was adopted over the past two weekends. This brings a weeks-long internal party dispute — which has severely shaken the AfD state association in North Rhine-Westphalia — to a provisional end.

Even before the start of the second conference weekend of the NRW AfD on Friday in Marl, the federal party leadership had called on the NRW state chairman to abort the conference. This was justified with alleged influence and threats against delegates during the first weekend of the conference. The motion had been tabled by AfD Bundestag member Christian Zaum. The delegates rejected this demand on Friday by a large majority in a vote. However, a corresponding motion was rejected in Marl.
