According to calculations by Allianz Pro Schiene and the consultancy firm SCI Verkehr, the federal government invested more than 220 euros per capita in the German rail network in 2025, while the industry association simultaneously warns of cuts from 2027 onward and a lack of multi-year financing.
Allianz Pro Schiene, which compiles its per capita figures for rail investments annually together with SCI Verkehr, sees the federal government on a record course regarding investments in the rail network. According to the figures presented, per capita investment in 2024 was 222 euros, as the calculations show. This places Germany in the middle of the European ranking: behind Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden and Norway, the Federal Republic occupies sixth place.
