The credit insurer Allianz Trade warns in a new analysis that flooding in Europe is causing growing economic damage and views Germany as particularly affected.

Study "Europe Under Water"

In the study "Europe under Water," Allianz Trade examines the economic consequences of flooding on the continent. According to the study, direct flood damage in Europe has totaled 226 billion euros since 2000. Between 2020 and 2025, damage across Europe was around 40 percent higher than the level of the entire first decade of the century, and in Germany by as much as 184 percent.

With cumulative damage of approximately 69 billion euros (78 billion US dollars) between 2000 and 2025, Germany tops the list of the most affected countries. It is followed by Italy with 37 billion and Spain with 22 billion euros. On average, there have been around 50 floods per year in Europe since 2000.
