The left-wing extremist group "Kommando Angry Birds" has published a claim of responsibility on the platform indymedia.org, in which it declares itself responsible for the sabotage of the railway line between Düsseldorf and Cologne.

Claim of responsibility on Indymedia

In the letter, which appeared online on Saturday, the group writes that it is responsible "für die Sabotage der Bahnstrecke nördlich von Leverkusen". WDR was the first to report on the claim of responsibility. The Cologne police confirmed upon inquiry that the letter was known; investigations were underway into whether it was authentic. According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, security circles reported that a sabotage act was suspected.

According to the railway, on Friday morning the embankment between Langenfeld and Leverkusen had burned in two places. The fire caused damage to several signal cables, so that no trains could run on this section of the line. On Saturday afternoon, a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn said that no forecast could currently be given as to when the line could be traveled on again. The railway described "die aktuelle betriebliche Lage in NRW" as "sehr angespannt".
